R9 290 and Radeon X300 On Windows, possible?

vendredi 1 mai 2015

hello, I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post this, but I am currently breaking my head over this.

I recently bought a VTX3D R9 290, which has two DVI-D connectors, whereas my older R9 270X used to have at least one DVI-I and one DVI-D connector.

Since I run two monitors, and one of them is only VGA, I remembered I had a spare radeon x300 I could use to connect my second, and possibly even a third one soon after, in the future.

Thing is, while on linux this works flawlessly and without any problem, windows simply refuses to do so.

To be more precise, I have:
  • Windows 10 10074: Error Code 31, card does not match POSTed driver or something like that
  • Windows 7: Error code 38, driver was already loaded in memory
  • Windows 8/8.1: Same thing as windows 10

If it doesn-t give any error, it just BSODs until I disable those X300 drivers, or else the r9 290's one stops working.

So, here I am, asking for any possible advice.

PS: My Motherboard is an ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0, and the CPU is overclocked to 5.1 GHz

DX12 Heterogeneous Multiadapter (Dedicated GPU + Integrated GPU)

Finally! Looks like it's supported by UT4

My monitor refuses to work using 1 to 1 pixel mapping (GTX 970)

I just bought my GPU and unfortunately the first DVI connector seems to be faulty, it displays faint horizontal black lines. My monitor supports only vga and hdmi so I use a dvi to vga adapter, I tried to change cable with a new one but it didn't work so I guess the dvi port on the gpu must be faulty.

I tried the HDMI and the black lines are gone but the problem is that my screen, a crappy PB maestro 220, has bad scaling in tv mode and makes the image look very grainy with no option to force PC mode.

I went in the nvidia control panel and I noticed that there are 2 sections for the resolutions one named Ultra HD, HD, SD and the other PC. If I select the 1920x1080 under the HD section my screen switches to tv mode and I get the pixellated mess, if I select the 1920x1080 under PC everything looks sharp.

The real problem is that certain games like, Battlefield and all the other frostbite engine games, Fifa 15, Warthunder, GTA V and others when set to fullscreen mode switch automatically to the 1920x1080 resolution under the HD section resulting in the pixellated TV mode.

Is there any way to delete the 1920x1080 under the HD section? Is there a way to force the games to use the one under PC?

I could play in borderless mode but I would like to use DSR and some games don't support borderless at all. Thanks for reading the wall of text, I hope you can help me.

AMD announces it is sponsoring the first ever E3 conference for PC

Crossfire Support for AMD's FreeSync has been delayed.

Crossfire Support for AMD's FreeSync has been delayed.

When AMD launched FreeSync, many AMD users were disappointed that they could not use the FreeSync with their AMD Crossfire setups, while Nvidia users have been able to use G-Sync with SLI setups since launch. Now AMD has announced that Catalyst drivers which support FreeSync and Crossfire simultaneously will not launch within their initial time frame of 1-2 months after the FreeSync launch.

While it is disappointing that AMD have not been able to deliver Crossfire support for FreeSync as soon as expected, we cannot argue with their reasoning as they want to release their next Catalyst drivers with as few bugs as possible and deliver the best possible gaming experience to their users.

Here is what AMD had to say on their Support Forums;

"AMD fans have been outspoken about their love for the smooth gameplay of AMD FreeSync™ technology, and have understandably been excited about the prospect of using compatible monitors with the incredible performance of an AMD CrossFire™ configuration.

After vigorous QA testing, however, it’s now clear to us that support for AMD FreeSync™ monitors on a multi-GPU system is not quite ready for release.

As it is our ultimate goal to give AMD customers an ideal experience when using our products, we must announce a delay of the AMD Catalyst™ driver that would offer this support. We will continue to develop and test this solution in accordance with our stringent quality standards, and we will provide another update when it is ready for release."
