i'm having a hard time with some dell servers and using a low profile nvidia graphics card in them instead of the matrix g200 embedded vga video.
with the embedded graphics and a monitor off that blue vga port everything works fine,
the problem is getting anything to display on the monitor when it's hooked up to the graphics card and the embedded video is disabled in the bios.
I inquired about it and it was mentioned because there are multiple cpu's, 4 actually, and there is something like 8 PCIE 3.0 slots that this is what's happening:
CPU-0 is tied to PCIE slot 0 and 1, CPU-1 is tied to PCIE slot 2 and 3, and so on.
during POST and when the bios screen pops up and lets you modify the bios that all runs through CPU-0 therefore in order to display that to the monitor the graphics card needs to be in PCIE slot 0 or 1.
What specifically happens with me is i have embedded video disabled, I do see the initial Dell bios screen where it says hit F2 for setup, F11 for boot options, and if i do either I get blank screen and i'm dead in the water. I do know my graphics card is not in PCIE slot 0 or 1 because a network card is there eating up the space.
i'm only really used to a simple pc having 1 cpu and multiple pcie slots and everything always just worked. is what i said above true, can anyone confirm that and/or expand on how PCIE works on a motherboard with more than 1 cpu?
