New to overclocking need a little advice, help, and information!

vendredi 10 avril 2015

Hello all! Haven't been here in a long time probably like 5 years! So I now find myself in a position of not being able to freely throw money at new hardware to gorge myself in gaming heaven. I do have a good rig and with some amazing air cooling with this Corsair carbide 540 air the cooling is great. Bought all new fans that have incredible RPM. Also have an after market cooler in the Cooler Master 212 with two fans on it. So I have spent about two full days researching the proper way to oc with my chip which from what I have seen is a beast.

Right now I'm running at 4.5 ghz with 1.3 volts as real temps is saying I need to be running at like 1.3661 or something. I was at 1.275, but thought that was too low. Anyway I'm not a 24/7 type person, but I usually have the comp on for 8-10 hrs (not all gaming mostly watching yt, doing work non graphic intense, and just reading articles) maybe everyday can't give a good read on that. Just depends, but that is a starting point. Seeing as money is tight and this board still commands a 300 dollar pricetag I don't want to fry it and would like to keep it good for as long as possible. Literally a few days ago was my first time trying to oc this thing so it hasn't felt the heat.

I don't game relentless and like to watch yt vids and just surf the web and see what is what, but I read a very brief thing about ocing is not great for just idling and doing that kind of stuff, but I also read that the CPU throttles down while not being worked as hard..... Have no idea if this is legit or not.

This is the vid I followed as he had the exact hardware I did and it was easy to follow.

So what he did is really what I have done and so far the comp seems really stable. I ran Prime95 for about 4 hours and temps on the chip didn't exceed 56-57 C. It is nice with this board as it has the temp on it for you to see and with my case I can look right in and see how hot it is getting.

Just some info on idle I'm getting 28-30 C with occasional bump up to 35C. Even when in game I rarely go over 50C. I have never hit 70 C at any time with this setup or really even come close even in the summer here in Los Angeles so those are good signs.

So I have concerns and don't want to overdo it. The real reason I wanted to do OCing was I will be getting GTA 5 on PC in the next few days and I would love to play on very high settings so I thought this would help me out.

I'm very new to all this so please don't burn me down if I made a mistake or missed something.

Thank you for your time!

290x black screen problems, help

jeudi 5 mars 2015

I have XFX 290 core edition with accelero xtreme iv, unlocked to 290X

temps : max gpu:60 vrm:65

GPU overclocking is fine, i can max out 1150 +75mv with afterburner.

Memory overclocking is the problem, no matter how much I overclock my memory i got black screen after 5-10 min of gameplay. memory is Elpida.

It is not psu problem i'm sure. Can this be fixed, another bios maybe, or

something else....? Even when memory is on stock 1250 sometimes i get black screen after 1h of gameplay....
