Microsoft goes public with its list of planned Windows 10 editions

mercredi 13 mai 2015

Here's the Windows 10 SKU line-up:

Windows 10 Home:
The consumer-focused desktop edition. This will include the core Windows 10 features, such as the Edge browser, Continuum tablet-mode for touch-capable devices; Cortana integration; free Photos, Maps, Mail, Calendar; Music and Video apps; and Windows Hello face-recognition/iris/fingerprint log-in for devices that support those technologies. On devices with screen sizes of 10.1 inches or less, users also will get Universal Office apps for free, once they are available.

Windows 10 Mobile:
This is the SKU for Windows Phones and small Intel- and ARM-based tablets. This SKU will include the core Windows 10 features; free Universal Office apps once they are available; and support for Continuum for Phone, allowing customers to use phones as PCs connected to larger screens (but only on new devices supporting certain screen resolutions).

Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise: This is a version of Windows 10 Mobile for volume licensing customers only. According to the blog post, this SKU incorporates the latest security and feature updates to Windows 10 once they are available. There's no word if users will be able to delay these updates in order to test/stagger their delivery, which is offered under Windows Update for Business.

Windows 10 Pro: A desktop version of Windows 10 for mobile workers, tech enthusiasts and other power users. This version is one of at least two -- the other being Windows 10 Enterprise -- that will allow users to opt for Windows Update for Business. Windows Update for Business will allow admins to opt to not receive all feature and security updates from Microsoft immediately after they are available.

Windows 10 Enterprise: This is the Enterprise version of Windows 10 that is available to volume-licensing customers. This version is not part of Microsoft's first-year-free upgrade offer, but those with volume-licensing Software Assurance customers will be able to move to this version as part of their licensing terms. The Enterprise version customers get access to the Long Term Servicing Branch of Windows 10 -- which allows them to opt to receive security fixes only and no new features as Microsoft rolls them out.

First time SSD buyer, I'm thinking M.2 route - anything to look out for?

I'm going to build a new gaming machine and I was planning on using an SSD as the primary drive.

I was thinking about using the Plextor M.2 M6e but, other that a bit more speed than a regular SSD drive, I'm not sure what the advantages or disadvantages are.

I plan on using my Windows 7 OS and will couple this with a standard SATA 1TB disk drive for storage. I was thinking about the 4790 with an ASUS board that accepts the M.2 slot - such as the Hero.

I really only want faster game loading times for battlefield 4 and some of the upcoming games.

Any recommendations or suggestions would be great!

Thanks,
Howard

First time SSD buyer, I'm thinking M.2 route - anything to look out for?

For a single GPU with a PCIe SSD - should I use 4790 or 5820?

I'm going to build a new game machine, but it's been a while so I looked into the SSD route for a primary drive. I'm thinking about the Plextor M.2 M6e and a (hopefully) 390X, once it's out.

All the research I did said the 4790 and 5820 were basically a wash - except for PCI lanes, which I don't understand too much about but I know the M.2 takes up some of those lanes.

Any recommendations? I play mostly battlefield, but will play the upcoming star wars game and possibly GTA5 etc.

Thanks,
Howard

House of Cars

Is Netflix seriously going to revive 'Top Gear' as 'House of Cars?'

Ever since Jeremy Clarkson punched a producer in a row over steak, the future of Top Gear has been completely up in the air. The BBC appears to have distanced itself completely, leaving Clarkson and his co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond to speak to other broadcasters about creating a brand new motoring show. Over the past few weeks, it's been suggested that streaming giant Netflix is the favourite to pick up the trio, and today The Mirror has added more fuel to the fire after it reported that the new show already has a name: House of Cars.

need MOBO advice for amd fx8350

Well, i'm trying to do a foolishness:my old am3 mobo asrock 890gx extreme 3 am3 can be transformed in an am3+ updating the bios. Only 2 cpus am3+ were tested but i'm pretty sure my fx 8350 will be compatible with few tweaks. If not,i'll need new mobo...so... can you suggest me a good mobo considering:
Don't need embed graphics, no sli, atx factor, good overclock capabilities using 2x4 gb ddr3 1600 memory modules, sata 3 usb 3, plenty of pwm fan controls, overclock proiles, reset and power buttons on the mobo.. Since i'm from italy just say the models, and i'll check how much cost in euros. 120 euros max is my budget.
Thanks in adavance
