I've been doing a lot of reading in preparation for my new babies that are to arrive next week sometime. I bought two of these SAPPHIRE 100361-4L Radeon R9 290X from newegg for 288 ea. plus it has a $20 rebate (which I can only use for ONE card, bastards! ;P).
Now a little background... the last time I ran crossfire was when I had 2 x Sapphire HD4870's. They were the BEST gaming cards I ever owned and they ran flawlessly. They ran everything for a solid 4-5 years before I really needed an upgrade. I did upgrade to my current HD7970 ghz Ed. from Gigabyte (still waiting for my 290x's).
So now onto my dilemma.
I think I made a mistake in getting the two 290x cards. I don't run 4k, at least not yet, and I wont be able to get a 4k monitor until next year as I just spent my money on these. I've been reading a lot of horror stories on how these cards don't perform well at all in crossfire unless your gaming @ 4k. Plus something about voltage regulation, bad drivers, etc.. I've always used AMD/ATI since the Radeon 9800 (Which still works by the way :)) and have never, ever encountered any problems in games, or system/driver issues with any of my AMD/ATI cards.
Sounds like buyers remorse I know, but it's not, it's more along the lines of did I just waste money to get the same performance in games as my 7970 ghz ed. at 1080p without crossfire and giving myself a whole slew of driver problems for crossfire? (I know I'm capped at 60hz) :bang:
I play games like Skyrim with mods, All of the Total War titles, The Witcher Series (Really looking forward to 3!), Dragon Age: Inquisition, Crysis 3, Dying Light, etc.. I don't play Battlefield, or very many online games.
