Must I upgrade for 1440p 144hz gaming

vendredi 3 avril 2015

Basically, I'm considering upgrading my CPU to raise my minimum fps to 120 or 144.

I have a 1440p 144hz monitor but my FPS is between 90-130 in BF4. I get almost no benefit from enabling SLI, and my CPU is never below 80% usage, and often at 95-100%. Meanwhile my GPUs are at 40-60% usage. So I'm considering upgrading my CPU to try and raise my minimum fps to 120 or 144.

My FPS in BF4 single player (or smaller multiplayer matches) is much higher, 150-250.

Increasing the resolution scale or graphics settings does cause my GPU usage to increase, but my goal with BF4 is not to max graphics ( I have The Witcher 2 and Shadows of Mordor for that), but rather to max FPS and response time.

I've done quite a bit of research and have learned that, for the vast majority of situations, in modern games any modern quad core is capable of adequate performance, relative to the system's GPU.

There are, however, exeptions to this rule. Some games, often those that have a high player populations like Battlefield or MMO's, are much more taxing on the CPU. Unfortunately for me, I play these types of games almost exclusively and as such I am seeing a disparity between my expectations and my system's performance.

That being said, I am unsure if there are any solutions that do not require a platform upgrade. I've asked around on other forums and some have suggested a 3770k and/or 2133-2400Mhz ram. I know ram usually has almost no effect on performance so long as you have enough of it, but maybe at super high frame-rates that is not the case.

I've seen videos claim that 1600 vs 2400 provided an increase of 37 on the average fps. I can't link them. They were provided by a member of the BF4 community so I take that information with a grain of salt :).
