motherboards without southbridge chipset?

jeudi 2 avril 2015

Hello,

I am trying to replace 4 of 6 Dell XPS 8700 computers that we purchased that are now out of warranty. All 4 have had southbridge chipset meltdowns.

My thinking was to find a workstation that either does not have a separate southbridge chipset, or if the motherboard does have a separate southbridge chipset to make sure it has a factory installed heatsink on it. Does this seem logical for preventing a future southbridge meltdown?

I was looking into the Dell 5810 Workstation or the HP Z640, but the Z640 seems like it might be overkill and too expensive. Finding out the motherboard characteristics has been very challenging.

Would love to hear your thoughts if particular motherboards without a separate southbridge chipset exist and where to get them, or any other thoughts on the subject. Thanks!
