Though Phil Spencer took the stage with a speech titled The Future of Gaming on Windows 10 and Xbox, the keynote itself was quite subdued and major announcements were, unfortunately, absent. Instead, as you can see in the video above, the company took its time to reiterate some of the features that will ship with Windows 10, and how its plans unify its Xbox and desktop strategies when it comes to gaming. Among the features discussed were, the Universal Apps coming as part of Windows 10, DirectX 12 with its performance and energy improvements, the new unified Store than allows users to buy once and enjoy their games on any Windows 10 device, a new hardware accessory and so on. Also worth mentioning is the new Xbox Live SDK thats been released in preview and which brings all the Live APIs found on the console development kits to the desktop. |
Phil presented with only four monitors, One Surface Pro 3, and Xbox One and four controllers. Keeping expectations lowered and realistic for the presentation.
Phil Spencer spent most of his career running Microsofts first party studios. With this history, he looks to approach the development cycle from content creation rather than simply dollars and cents.
This year it looks like the Xbox will be about content and getting content to consumers rather than pitching stories for use cases and peripherals.
