R9 290X Tri-X 8GB doesn't uses all VRAM

Hi guys,

i'm just bought this card, all is fine, but no one application push over 4GB vram usage.

I'm a x-plane user, and I bought this card for avoid the 4GB bottleneck (i'm using photoreal sceneries and my vram usage, now with maximum settings, should hits 5-6 gb), but nothing is changed from when I was using a 4GB VGA.

When close the 4GB utilization, driver seems throttles and never get over 3.7-3.9GB usage



In windows driver properties I see:



Total available graphics memory: 7936MB

Dedicate Video Memory: 4096

Shared System Memory: 3840



GpuZ also show 8GB of VRAM, but in the sensor graphic tab, like in afterburner graphic, the maximum values is 4GB, and anyway I never see pass 3.8GB usage.



I managed to fillup memory with many programs (also simultanly) like Video Memory Stess Test, Kombustion and Hevean, but unsuccessfully.

If I start two GPU Benchmark, one of 3072MB and other of 2048MB, I see the vram throttling:

I though it should be a GPU bottleneck, so I tried wiht two test of 2048MB + 1024MB but the GPU is not the bottleneck, seems to be VRAM:

RAM: DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 16Gb 1600MHz - HDD: Raid 0 SSD Samsung 120GB 840 Evo

GPU: Tri-X R9 290X 8GB GDDR5 OC(UEFI) - PSU: Cooler Master 850W Silent Pro GOLD



Any advice? I'm a bit frustrated
