Can switching PC off before the amp cause damage?

mardi 17 février 2015

I have my PC connected to a hi-fi amp and speakers with RCA cables from the PC's soundcard.

I accidentally turned off my PC the last night without turning my amp off first (which I always do). The amp volume was only set quietly and not blasting.

There was a funny buzz noise through the speakers that lasted a couple of seconds while the PC powered down.

Can doing this damage my amp and/or speakers? I say this because music tonight sounds like it's more balanced towards my right speaker a tiny bit. But again that could be me listening for problems or the fact that I have a bit of a bunged up nose and ears at the moment.

I'm just wondering if powering down the PC before switching the amp off first can be harmful.
