Today are going to talk about GeForce GTX 980 Ti. While everyone is waiting for Radeon 300 series, NVIDIA is busy developing yet another flagship card that will target yet unreleased Fiji-based Radeon graphics cards. Some of you might have noticed that we didn’t cover recent GTX 980 Ti rumors. It was for two reasons: nothing was confirmed (not even the name of the card) and secondly almost everything that was posted was based on speculation. This post however, is based solely on our new information provided by credible source (thanks Jen-Hsun!). GeForce GTX 980 Ti with GM200-310 GPU First of all, we can confirm that the next installment in GeForce 900 series is codenamed GTX 980 Ti. NVIDIA took the same path as with TITAN BLACK and GTX 780 Ti. GTX TITAN X will continue to offer maximum memory capacity (12GB), while GeForce GTX 980 Ti just a half of this enormous frame buffer (6GB). Both cards share the same board model and probably the same reference cooler. The difference is, GTX 980 Ti will be available with custom cooling solutions (unlike TITAN X, although there are few exceptions). We are aware of few GTX 980 Ti models already. We can tell you to expect a full variety of coolers: reference, custom-air-cooled, watercooled and hybrids. We can also confirm that GTX 980 Ti will have five display outputs: three DisplayPorts, HDMI and DVI-I, so same as TITAN X. We were unable to confirm the existence of ‘metal enhanced edition’, so I wouldn’t probably pay too much attention to this rumor. What still remains unconfirmed are the specifications. Although everyone is confident GTX 980 Ti has full GM200 silicon, we cannot confirm this to you just yet. We can however confirm, that GeForce GTX 980 Ti will sport GM200-310 GPU. How does it differ from GM200-400? We don’t know (yet). To sum up: cheaper GM200-based graphics card is codenamed GeForce GTX 980 Ti; GeForce GTX 980 Ti has GM200-310 GPU GeForce GTX 980 Ti has 6GB of GDDR5 memory; GeForce GTX 980 Ti will be available with custom cooling solutions; GeForce GTX 980 Ti has 5 display outputs: 3xDP, HDMI, DVI-I NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti is expected to arrive in few weeks. There's never been a better time to play games on PC. Gaming-capable hardware is inexpensive, digital distribution has given us unprecedented access to a huge range of games, and publishers have finally recognized that reports of its demise as a viable platform were ludicrously exaggerated. And soon the PC will have its own celebratory event during E3 week, with the first-ever PC Gaming Show, presented by AMD and put together by, well, us. "The PC Gaming Show embodies the spirit of innovation, openness and community that's part of our DNA—delivered by gamers, for gamers," AMD Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics Matt Skynner said. "The time is right for a PC-focused event in the week of E3 and we're honored to be part of bringing the industry together." Hosted by Sean "Day[9]" Plott, the PC Gaming Show at E3 will feature appearances by Dean Hall of DayZ fame, Cliff Bleszinski of Boss Key Productions, and developers from studios including Blizzard, Bohemia Interactive, Cloud Imperium Games, Tripwire Interactive, Square Enix, Obsidian, Paradox, Devolver Digital and the Humble Bundlers, with more to be announced. "We’re living in a golden age of PC gaming, but unlike other platforms the PC has no format holder, no marketing department, and—until now—no event during E3 week purely devoted to it," added Tim Clark, global editor-in-chief at PC Gamer. "We think a show like this, which brings together people from every corner of PC gaming to celebrate the exciting things happening, is long overdue. Watch Dogs 2 is in development at Ubisoft, according to the online CV of the game's senior gameplay programmer. Julien Risse, who works at Ubisoft's Paris studio, lists the unannounced sequel on his LinkedIn profile alongside earlier titles Watch Dogs and its DLC Bad Blood, but doesn't offer any hints as to when we may see it. Could Ubisoft have plans to unveil Watch Dogs 2 at E3? VideoGamer.com has contacted Ubisoft for comment. |

A Russian Soyuz 2-1A rocket lofted the latest Progress resupply vehicle (M-27M) for what was supposed to be a fast rendezvous trip to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch of the Progress – riding on a Soyuz 2-1A for the first time – occurred at 07:09 GMT on Tuesday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. On Thursday, April 23rd, we lost part of our family. Rachel Bryk tragically died at just 23 years old. It's hard to believe that just two years ago, Rachel was reluctant to submit changes to the emulator at all due to being relatively inexperienced. But over the course of two years, she spent a considerable amount of time working on what she loved, becoming the tenth most active developer over the time period. She often would do a lot of the drudge work that no one else would do and attempt features that no one else had time to work on. Much of her time in Dolphin was dedicated to giving TASers the tools they needed to be able to make ridiculous videos pushing games to and past their absolute limits. Without her dedicated work, it's very likely that Wiimote TASing would not have become stable enough for general usage as it is now. She was also responsible for improvements in savestates, netplay, the user interface, configuration, and more. |

Exclusive: According to our industry sources, AMD has a few surprises in store for us when it comes to the Radeon R9 390X, and the other GPUs that will arrive with the Radeon 300 series. Our source wouldn't elaborate, but they did say that the new Radeon R9 390X will arrive with specifications and possibly features that are different to what the rumors currently suggest. We've reported that the Radeon R9 390X would come with two versions; the 4GB and 8GB products with GDDR5 or High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM1) from SK Hynix. But, we've heard from other industry sources not long ago that there would be tight stock when the 390X launches, which could be caused by yield issues on HBM1. We've also reported that the R9 390X would arrive as a watercooled version, but now we're getting new information. Something interesting that our source said, was that if HBM1 provides what it on paper should provide very easily, "NVIDIA are in trouble". Now, for what we know, there are only a few launches from NVIDIA for this year. First, the rumored GeForce GTX 980 Ti, which will be a cutdown GM200 GPU, the same found on the Titan X. Second, there's also news of NVIDIA allowing add-in board (AIB) partners to use aftermarket coolers on the Titan X, which will see a big injection of speed from Titan X cards from the likes of MSI, ASUS, and more. The GTX 980 Ti from NVIDIA could be interesting, as it will most likely provide users with Titan X like performance, with 6GB of VRAM. According to the rumors, AMD should have either 4GB or 8GB of HBM1, and if our sources are right with the promised performance of HBM1, could NVIDIA really be in "trouble"? AMD can't surprise and be on a smaller process, with 28nm the current slab NVIDIA and AMD have used with their latest cards. No one is ready for mass production of 14nm for GPUs, so maybe we're going to see a 28nm-based card with HBM1, and some surprising performance benefits. Mix this in with the Fiji XT and Fiji VR architectures, and a 4096-bit memory bus. If we're getting 640GB/sec+ of memory bandwidth, and some added performance from Fiji, AMD could have a real big winner on its hands. HBM1 has bandwidth of around 640GB/sec compared to cards that are averaging 300GB/sec or so right now, with HBM2 promising up to 1.2TB/sec, or 1200GB/sec. Double what HBM1 is promising, and up to four times the memory bandwidth of the average Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX Titan X from today. The last time we saw HBM2 was at NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conference, with a beautiful HBM2 wafer on display by SK Hynix. |
